Damien is a rock n roll band from the Lund/Malmö area in south Sweden. Their music has a heavy, dirty rock sound, with a melodic touch of metal. The band members musical influence has a wide range of spectrum, from heavy metal to jazz and from punk to blues.
Damien was formed in 1999 by the two guitarists Filip and Anders. At that time Anders played the drums but after that the singer wanted to get behind the drum set and Anders started to play the guitar. Because the band no longer had a singer they asked Michelle to audition for them, and she is still with them today. After some changes of members and some struggle with the musical identity, Damien has found its musical voice. The music has its roots in pre-Damien, Orphan Aliens rock n roll tradition but is today leaning toward a metal sound. This is due to the former drummer who produced many of Damiens songs. He left the band in 2010 and after a short audition process, Torbjörn, joined as the new drummer.
He played his first live gig with the group at their EP release. Michelle, the female singer in Damien, has a jazz and musical background and today she also sings in a church choir. She is studying musicology at University and is now doing her MA in that matter. Magnus joined Damien after playing with the melodic metal band Miscellany for many years. He also plays in the more pop influenced band Main where Torbjörn is playing the drums as well. Before these two bands he played in the death metal band Eternal Winter but is actually more influenced by classic rock bands like AC/DC and Iron Maiden, and drummers like Tommy Lee and Dave Grohl. Filip, one of the founders of Damien, has a background in metal and garage rock. He is also playing guitar in the Märsta/Stockholm based heavy punk rock band The Sevenfortysevens. Anders, Damiens second founder, listens to a lot of punk and blues which can be heard in his guitar play. In the last two years Damien has come a long way.
From playing at fairs and youth recreation centres, to entering Sweden Rocks Alarm stage. A music video to the song We are the Kids, produced by Maria Stoianova, was recorder in the winter of 2009 and shortly after that Damien registered its own record label, Grammofoninstitutet. In the fall of 2010 the EP Kings of Rock/Queen of Roll was released in digital form and was made accessible on Spotify and iTunes. Damien is now writing new song for their full length CD that is planned to hit the market in early 2012. Another music video is also under planning and during the summer Damien will tour in Sweden and in Germany.
