Sean McCabe, with his brand of Irish Americana, has been delighting music lovers all over the US for several years. Also resident in Sweden, Sean is a regular performer at pubs and festivals. He is a huge fan of country music, and enjoys performing songs by Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton, and others. He also throws into the mix some of his favourite Irish songs (he is Irish after all!), such as ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ or ‘Molly Molone’, and even a couple of Dropkick Murphy’s songs. He is also a fan of classic and contemporary rock, and enjoys singing a few Creedence or Beatles numbers, not to mention a little bit of Britpop, from Oasis to Amy Winehouse! Roots music is at the center of what he does, however - his own mix of Americana and Irish music, what he likes to call Irish Americana!
Sean has toured the US extensively and has appeared at most of the major Irish folk festivals there with his band ‘The McCabes’ and also as a solo act. He has performed at most well-known music venues in New York, including Irving Plaza, The Knitting Factory, Arlene’s Grocery, and Paddy Reilly’s music bar (where he held a three year residency and recorded a live album). He has also performed at Shea Stadium, the legendary baseball stadium in New York where The Beatles played on their first visit to the US!
Sean has written a novel, entitled ‘The Pubs of New York’. Inspired by ‘The Gangs of New York’, Sean’s novel, which is based on the true story of a murder which occurred in an Irish bar in the Bronx some years back, is about the recent generation of Irish immigrants in America. Sean’s novel has been serialized in The Irish Voice Newspaper in New York, and copies of it are often to be seen in the windows of Irish pubs in the city that never sleeps!
